Spices and Herbs That Can Boost Your Immune System

Adding herbs to your daily ritual to prevent illness is practical and valuable. The cold season has approached us fast and knowing a few herbal remedies to keep you going is beneficial. We all know the benefit of echinacea for boosting our immune system, but don’t forget about garlic and peppermint. Herbs can be effective if used at the first sign of a possible illness. Having on hand herbs and spices such as turmeric, peppermint, paprika, cinnamon, ginger, and echinacea is beneficial.

My garden has an herbal plant area that includes below some of the following popular herbs I can use for life’s challenges. A basic cup of peppermint tea daily in the morning helps open the chest cavity and provides a pathway to reduce congestion and trapped phlegm in the body.

Herbal blends can also be helpful, such as combining peppermint for congestion and lemon balm or chamomile to promote relaxation in tea. Don’t forget, on a hot day, make a pitcher of iced tea and add this combination of peppermint and lemon balm or chamomile to your morning wake-up. Play around with various tea blends and create something that helps you during your day or evening. Here are some of my garden favorites:

1.    Peppermint

2.    Sweet Mint

3.    Lavender

4.    Goldenseal

5.    Basil

6.    Lemon Balm

7.    Cilantro

8.    Chamomile

I also enjoy traveling to various places and learning about some of the local herbs and spices offered in those areas. Returning home with a few new spices is something I always look forward to experiencing on my travel journeys.
